Huge thanks to the community for your ideas, bug reports, and big submissions — they directly shape this app. Here's what's landed recently.
08/07/26+6 more updatesInterface consistency polish
- •Interface consistency polish — the builder's tags and buttons now share one corner radius, so the header reads as one set: the Legion, Titandeath, faction, allegiance, Support, Iconic and Dedicated Transport tags all match each other and the action buttons. The Legion tag and Titandeath tag are tappable too — the Legion tag opens the change-Legion panel, the Titandeath tag opens a rules panel for the Engine Killer surcharge and special rules. And the Change-Legion picker now shows each Legion's special rule (e.g. White Scars — 'Born in the Saddle') instead of just the Primarch's name, so you can choose on what a Legion actually does
- •Builder polish sweep from the QA review — the compliance panel now never hides a legality error behind “…and N more” (errors always show, only warnings collapse), army-level compulsory-slot warnings name the formation they belong to, and the unattached-Commander warning is shorter and shown once instead of twice; the floating compliance panel is solid (no page content bleeding through it); tapping a Knight/Titan slot names the specific unit (“Select Cerastus Knight Banner”, not “Select Knight”); the Add-Formation picker drops the repeated faction subtitle on every row; Select/Compare/Delete in the saved-lists bar show their labels on mobile; the slot picker's “nothing to show” message now names the filter that hid the options and its reset link works; and “What can I field?” no longer claims every faction is fieldable via freeform Custom Formations
- •The army-builder compliance panel now never hides a legality error: errors are always shown in full and only lower-priority warnings ever collapse into the “…and N more” overflow, so an over-points or mixed-allegiance list can't look clean just because it also has five slot warnings
- •One design language across the app — every tag and pill (Loyalist/Traitor allegiance, Iconic, errata labels, changelog version and contributor pills, collection Ready/Paint/Buy to-dos) now shares a single tuned shape family with its meaning kept in colour; page titles read the same on every page; the builder and collection toolbar chips match each other; and the Game Rules section nav uses the same chips as the rest of the app
- •Formation cards line up properly again — the duplicate and remove buttons now sit level with the points badge instead of floating above it
- •Crisper, more consistent icons — the home page, changelog, game companion, privacy & terms pages, print sheet controls and sync prompts now draw their icons with the same sharp SVG system as the rest of the app, so they render identically on every device and stay pin-sharp at any zoom
- •More builder polish from the QA review — pressing Escape inside a dropdown or rename box now closes just that, not the whole dialog (so a half-typed new-army name is no longer lost); the “New Army” / “Import” buttons read the same everywhere and the tutorial names the real button; single counts read correctly (“1 Base”, “1 Formation”, “1 more issue”); a Knight/Titan formation's empty-slot warnings name the specific engine (“Compulsory Cerastus Knight Banner slot not filled”) so stacked warnings are distinguishable; both compliance panels now describe the primary-detachment target the same way (“need 70%+”); and the Auto-Generate options use the app's standard switches (proper accessibility) instead of look-alike buttons
07/07/26+7 more updatesTidied the Army Builder's intro copy
- •Tidied the Army Builder's intro copy — the welcome guide no longer lists a CSV export the list builder doesn't offer (it exports as text, JSON, or a share link), and the empty-builder screen no longer opens with two near-identical 'Create your first…' lines stacked on top of each other
- •Drag-to-reorder formations now shows a clear insertion line in the gap where the formation will land, so you can drop it precisely between two others — matching how reordering detachments already works
- •The Advanced collection's sort button now shows an up ↑ or down ↓ arrow to match the current sort direction, instead of a static icon — so ascending vs descending reads at a glance
- •On desktop you can now expand or collapse a formation in the army builder by clicking anywhere on its header — not just the little arrow — matching how detachment cards already work; and the formation info “?” now lines up neatly under the formation name
- •Army builder: the slot picker's "Restrict to each formation's Legion" filter now appears on every Legiones Astartes list, not just ones with a single army-wide Legion — so building a Death Guard formation can hide (and stop counting) models you've tagged to another Legion, like a Salamanders unit.
- •Auto-Generate can now build the biggest legal list your collection allows — no fixed points target. Tap “No limit” next to Target points, or flip on “Use all my models” to fill an army from everything you own (with allies pushed to their 30% cap when enabled); each result shows roughly how much of your collection it uses. This fixes the dead-end where a high target like 10,000 pts said “couldn’t generate” because the rules need more formations than your collection can field, even though a smaller target built fine
- •Iconic formations now arrive fully linked: adding one auto-joins its Commander to a Core detachment and links every Dedicated Transport to the unit it carries, so you no longer meet a wall of “isn't linked” / “isn't attached” warnings. Transport capacity is now pooled per host too — several transports carrying one detachment count their seats together, so they're no longer each told they “can't carry all” when together they can. The “more transports than it needs” warning still fires when the pooled transports genuinely overshoot
- •Tap a unit's type tag (Walker, Vehicle, Infantry…) on its datasheet to see what that type means — its default Tactical Strength plus the key rules, like which units can ride Transports and how they move through terrain
06/07/26+2 more updatesFormations now have an Auto-sort button
- •Formations now have an Auto-sort button — tap it to reorder a formation's detachments to match its slots, running Compulsory first, then Choice, then Optional, so the list reads in the same order as the slot box. It only appears when there's something to reorder, and attached HQ and transport detachments stay with their unit
- •The “Add more models” option sheet now colours each +X choice by whether your collection can field it — green when the models it adds fit what you have available (after the rest of your army), amber when it would overshoot — so you can see at a glance how far you can go. The upgrade rows also read cleaner: the model name is only shown when it adds something the row title doesn't already say.
- •Corrected the wargear on the Sacramentii Foehammers' Malcador Annihilator Squadron: its hull weapon in the loadout now reads lascannon (matching its all-lascannon Annihilator profile, whose turret and sponsons are already lascannon) instead of a stray autocannon
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Legion Companion free to use?
Legion Companion is completely free to use with no ads. It is a fan-made project built for the Legions Imperialis community. However, hosting and running the app is not free — if you find it useful, please consider supporting the project to help keep it going.
Where is my data stored, and does it need a connection?
Your army lists, collection, and game data are saved on the device you're using, and the app keeps working if your connection drops mid-session. Sign in and cloud sync keeps everything in step across all your devices. You can also install it to your home screen like an app. (A full offline cold-start isn't supported yet.)
What armies are supported?
Legion Companion supports Legiones Astartes, Solar Auxilia, Mechanicum Taghmata, Dark Mechanicum, Questoris Familia, Collegia Titanica, and Strategic Assets — covering all current Legions Imperialis factions and updates.
Can I share my army lists?
Yes. You can generate a shareable link for any list, print game-ready tracker sheets, or export lists as text. Cloud sync is also available so your lists follow you across devices.
What devices does it work on?
Any modern device — phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. The layout adapts to each screen, and touch, mouse, and trackpad are all fully supported, so it works just as well at the table as it does at your desk.
